Rehearsing at Elden Street

(Looking for a rehearsal calendar? )

See Also ESP and IST Safety Considerations

The Elden Street Players have benefited over the years from a very supportive relationship with the Town of Herndon.  Since the Industrial Strength Theatre is owned and operated by the Town of Herndon, it is often rented out on a regular basis to several local groups and organizations.   While the Elden Street Players are the primary user of the facility, we pay a rental fee to the town for rehearsals and performances.

To minimize these rehearsal costs and maximize the town's ability to rent the space, ESP rehearses most productions in a space we affectionately call "The Town Shop."  Actually it is the large cafeteria/breakroom at the Herdon Public Works facility, located next to the Police Station.  We have enjoyed the use of this facility for several years and want to be able to keep rehearsing there for many years to come.

To that end, we must abide by several rules:

  1. Parking: NO vehicles may be driven or parked inside the Public Works facility fence.  All ESP personnel must park in the lot between the public works facility and the Herndon Police station, and then walk through the gated fence.
  2. Security: The gate between the parking lot and the building must be kept closed with the lock inserted through the latch, although the lock may remain "unlocked" while we are on the premises. ESP has a key to the "Town Shop."  We are only allowed access with this key.  Please do not enter the building without the "key holder" present.
  3. Furniture: Please take care of the furniture.  It our responsibility to leave the space as we found it.  So any furniture that is moved must be put back.  Do not sit on the tables, they are not built to sustain that weight.  Please pick up tables when moving them, do not slide them across the floor.
  4. Floor: see furniture note above.  Please make an effort to clean your shoes before entering the facility and do not where shoes that would mark the floor.
  5. Restricted Area: The rehearsal space ends at the glass door at the end of the hall.  Do not go into the office areas of the building.  We are restricted to the cafeteria and restroom areas of the building.
  6. Town Personnel: Please be courteous and understanding of the Public Works personnel.  They are lending us the use of that space, and so we must allow them to move freely about the facility as needed.   Usually, this is not a problem as our rehearsals are normally after working hours.
  7. Schedule Conflicts: Unfortunately, an occasion will occur where the Town has committed the space to another group (Cub Scouts, normally) in conflict with a rehearsal.  Contact your producer and/or the ESP executive producer.  DO NOT throw anyone out.  Again, we are guests of the Town and must live with the occasional mistakes that come with scheduling multiple groups and facilities.
  8. NO SMOKING in the facility.
  9. Food and Drink: It is a cafeteria after all, so food and drink are, of course, permitted.  But, individuals are responsible for cleaning up after themselves and placing recyclables in the proper containers.

Please take these rules to heart.  We cannot afford to lose the Town Shop for rehearsals.
