Aladdin and the Wonderful Lamp
Auditions

Audition Dates & Times: Monday, January 9 and Wednesday, January 11, 2012

Time:
7:00-8:30pm

Location: Hutchison ES, Parcher Avenue, Herndon VA

Audition Format/Preparation: Auditions will include improv games and cold readings from the script. Head shots are welcomed but not mandatory. Please come to auditions with a list of your known conflicts, to aid in planning rehearsal dates and times.

Casting:

Actors Note: While general character descriptions appear below, we are not tied to the gender that the role may appear to be. We are looking to the actors to show us how you would like to present your character. Please come dressed for movement. Although there will be no elaborate choreography, there will be one "fight" scene between Aladdin and another character, and the ESP Theatre For Young Audiences (TFYA) attendees like to see onstage action - there's nothing like a good chase scene!
The King: Loud and bombastic (at least when the show begins)
Scheherazade: Comfortable with detailed narration
The Musician / Aladdin: In a word, cute
The Cook / Aladdin's Mother: Protective, worried about her son
The Jester / The (Evil) Magician: Evil, but with a sense of humor
The Porter / The Genie: fun and smart
The Chancellor / The Grand Vizier: Pompous blowhard
The Accountant / The Grand Vizier's Son: Stuck under his father's rule
The Dancer / The Princess: Clever
The General / The Sultan: In charge, or likes to think he is

About the Directors:  Laura Fontaine has appeared in several ESP TFYA shows, including "The Frog Princess" and "Cinderella Wore Combat Boots." She has performed on ESP's main stage in Metamorphoses, and she is also a 2010 WATCH award winner for Outstanding Hair Design in a Musical - "Rent." Laura is looking forward to co-directing Aladdin and the Wonderful Lamp with Meredith Walker, who is excited to be making her co-directing debut with Laura. Meredith and Laura met at ESP TFYA when they played the two stepsisters in "Cinderella Wore Combat Boots." Meredith has acted in many TFYA shows including "Sleeping Beauty," "Alice in Wonderland," and "Rapunzel." Meredith is also a member of "Mission:Impromptu," an improv troup in Leesburg, VA.

About the show:  Come join our King who, suffering from boredom in ruling his kingdom, orders the local gypsy to entertain him. She gets the local townspeople organized to tell the classic story of Aladdin and the Wonderful Lamp. The magic genie and all of your favorite characters are here, though the ending may not quite be what you expect...

About the production:

Production Dates: Saturday March 24 through Saturday April 7, 2012 (Eight shows at ESP's Industrial Strength Theatre)
