Phil Apple (Technical Director) is at home both on and back stage. He has been doing theater for over 15 years. He has appeared on stage at ESP in La Cage Aux Folles and several of the Theater for Younger Audiences Something Different productions for six years. He recently directed The Man Who came to Dinner with Sterling Playmakers and was technical director for ESP's Gypsy.
Jay Bradley (Costume Design)Pippin will be my fourth production with ESP since La Cage Aux Folles, where I glamorized the Cagelles with glittery headdresses. If there's a sequin around, my glue gun is ready to put it on something. Designing Pippin costumes that fit the eclectic nature of the show by crossing the line in styles, color, and texture has been truly fun and has made the last 6 months work very rewarding. I would never have pulled off getting to opening night without the help and assistance of both Marti and Joanne. I can't thank them enough! Also, I would like to give special thanks to Rachael, Celine, Barbara, Becca, Suzanne, and Hillary for their hours of devotion in constructing the costumes and making my designs a reality. Now where is my glue gun, I know there's a helmet that needs to be made?
Joe Gems (Music Director) has music directed more shows than he can remember, this being his seventh for ESP alone (not counting part credit for helping out with La Cage). Joe has also music directed for RCP, PCP, VTC, LTA, and Middleburg in the course of his musical "non-career."Joe wishes to thank his Mom, who has departed for hopefully greener pastures, for her no-nonsense approach to requiring him to practice piano EVERY day of his youth. It felt like drudgery then, but the rewards have been bound- less!
Richard KIare (Producer) has performed at a number of area community theaters. Most recently as Big Jule in Guys and Dolls, (AMS), Juror #4 in Twelve Angry Men (RCP), Sheridan Whiteside in The Man Who Came to Dinner (SL), Vincentio in The Taming of the Shrew (ES P), Kralahome in The King and I (RCP), Caiaphus in Jesus Christ Superstar (VTC). He is president of ESP where, among other duties such as set building and tech directing, he has produced hit the musicals, La Cage Aux Folles, The Who's Tommy, Gypsy, and Hair.
Mary Joan Loughnane (Properties) has worked back stage with ESP on a number of shows. She recently made a cameo appearance on stage in ESP's Our Town. When not gathering or making props herself, she gets her husband and tour children to pitch in and make it a family affair.
Arthur Rodger (Stage Manager) - It is always a pleasure to work with Chuck, whether as his stage manager, assistant director, make-up designer or fellow actor. It is a new pleasure to work with The Elden Street Players. I have admired their work for several years and am delighted to be a part of a production. Make new friends, but keep the old
Marty Rosenfeld (Sound Design) is please to return to ESP. His past sound design credits include The Who's Tommy (ESP) and Jesus Christ Superstar (VTC) both of which won Ruby Griffith Awards. He has also sound designed ESP's Chess and Sweeney Todd as well as a number of other shows in area community theaters. He is especially happy to be working with his two talented sons, both of whom are playing in the band for Pippin.
Chuck Whalen, M.A. (Director) was very pleased being invited to direct tor ESP and has commented that the "energy and creativity at ESP is palpable". Some previous directing jobs were A Midsummer Night's Dream, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, and All My Son's with TAP, and Six Degrees of Separation with the St. Mark's Players in D.C. Chuck was also Assistant Director for the Helen Hayes award-winning production of Wings at Signature Theatre. He most recently performed the role of the Warden in TAP's Ruby Griffith top award- winning production of the musical Kiss of the Spider Woman.
Les Zidel (Lighting Designer) has enjoyed lighting many musicals at the IST including Man of La Mancha, Tommy, Jesus Christ Superstar and La Cage Aux Folles. Les is a founding member of ESP and serves as their technical director. He has produced and/ or designed more than thirty productions for ESP, Port City Players, and VCP. This past season he was the stage manager for ESP's recent hit, Our Town. Les wants to thank his lighting crew, Sarah, Rosey, Cap, Pat, Jeff, and the two Johns, and for the kind assistance of Frank Coleman and his vast array of Source 4's. Pippin rules!
