Casting:

10 Men and 4 Women (sorry, no roles for young actors under 18)

Character Breakdowns:

Giorgio - (Range  G to G) - A young, handsome 19th Century soldier with a great love for life; perhaps a man of poetic sensibilities; madly in love with Clara because she is young and beautiful and as impulsive as he; that she is married doesn’t seem to bother him, at least not in the beginning; adheres to duty and honor otherwise; explores his deepest feelings and fears as he begins to understand the true nature of love. His cool military demeanor and cerebral kindness to Fosca slowly develops into a sensitive empathy for this obsessed creature which changes his perception of love and finally to surrender to the all-consuming love of Fosca.
Clara - (Range  F to F) - A well-to-do, sensuous, strikingly beautiful woman probably married to a lesser aristocrat; one child, having an intoxicating affair with a young soldier; her husband is probably a good deal older than she and rather officious. She is called a Titianesque love goddess by some. She is also practical as she declines Giorgio’s offer to run away with him. She doesn’t want to abandon her comfortable life and yet she can sense that she is losing Giorgio and she becomes despondent and lonely.
Fosca - (Range  E-sharp to C-sharp) - Plain, willful and sickly cousin of Col. Ricci; she is obsessed with the handsome young soldier, Giorgio, and she slowly transforms and claims his very soul. Her illness manifests itself both mentally and physically; she is in great pain and mentally hysterical at times. She has a weak body but a steely determination. The intensity and sincerity of her love will win over Giorgio in the end.
Colonel Ricci - (Range  must have high G) - Commander of the outpost; military demeanor but rather sensitive; responsible and protective of his cousin, Fosca. He feels guilty for introducing Fosca’s husband to her (who married her for the dowry).
Doctor Tambourri - (Range  not specified) - Gizzled medical man responsible for care of Fosca; indulges Fosca by sending Giorgio to her but in the end, warns Giorgio to steer clear of Fosca as she will destroy him.
Lieutenant Torasso - (Range  not specified) - Joker in the officer’s mess; has to be able to sing opera, albeit badly.
Ludovic - (Range  must have high G) - Ne’er do well, handsome playboy who marries Fosca for her dowry
Other Roles
Lieutenant Barri, Major Rizzoli, Sergeant Lombardi, Private Augenti, soldiers - (Range assorted, two need high Gs) -(Officers and soldiers of the military outpost; Sgt. Lombardi is also the cook; Private Augenti is also the messenger; all have lines)
Attendants/Mistress/Mother - (Range  - Mistress high F - Mother high G) - (The two attendants at the military outpost also play the role of Ludovic's mistress and Fosca’s mother; both have small solos)
