“A” - 92 years old. In Act I we see her as a frail, dying, bitter old woman.
Throughout her life she has been bigoted, vindictive, domineering and ambitious.
As she lay dying she is cantankerous, feisty and domineering, demanding constant
attention from “B,” her nurse and companion. In Act II she portrays a healthy,
energetic and vital version of herself, and we get a glimpse of some of the life
forces that turned her into that bitter old woman.
“B” - 52 years old - Nurse and constant companion to “A.” She has an ironic
sense of humor, is very patient, and resigned to, and tolerant of her constant
demands. In Act II we see her as the middle aged “everywoman.”
“C” - 26 years old - A lawyer who has come to straighten out “A”s tangled
legal and financial affairs. She is not so understanding and tolerant of “A.”
Somewhat naďve and a bit arrogant. In Act II she is the younger, vulnerable
version of “A” or “everywoman.”
"The Boy". (the son) 20’s . Preppy. A non-speaking role, however, an
extremely important one, with a great opportunity for characterization.
