Casting Requirement: 2M, 2W. All strong dramatic actors with a flair for
subtle comedy.
GABE – 40s, husband to Karen/best friend of Tom; international food writer,
gourmet chef, strong silent type, down-to-earth, a peacemaker, able to see
different sides of a story, leads a very structured life, very “status quo”,
tends to keep things “bottled up”, not as emotional as his wife, but truly in
love with her. He questions his own marriage in light of his friends’ divorce.
KAREN – 40s, wife to Gabe/best friend of Beth; international food writer,
gourmet chef, caring, loving, gregarious, friendly, emotional; however, at
times, she can be controlling, judgmental, opinionated and unforgiving; the
perfect hostess, doting “Mom” to Beth, very committed to her husband, can appear
cold at times, but she has an unspoken warmth that makes her a loyal friend. She
questions her own marriage in light of her friends’ divorce.
TOM – 40s, husband to Beth/best friend of Gabe; lawyer, “boy toy at 43”, a
charmer, adventuresome, athletic, sexual, a bit narcissistic, able to get
through his “midlife crisis”, but still has some unspoken pain and guilt. He
leaves his wife for another woman.
BETH – 40s, wife to Tom/best friend of Karen; housewife and struggling
artist, high-strung, a bit neurotic, makes decisions based on emotion rather
than thought, needs a man in her life to feel whole. Although devastated by her
husband’s departure, she forges on with her own new life.
Auditions will consist of readings from the script and improv.
