Director's Notes

A little over twenty years ago I had the opportunity to play The Man, working opposite my wife, in a production of Veronica's Room at Dominion Stage. We seldom have the opportunity to play opposite each other in plays, and that by itself made it special. But in addition, I felt a special rapport with the audience in this one, a feeling of working with them in solving the mystery of Veronica's Room. It was a wonderful experience for me, one I had never had before or have had since. As a result, when I began directing on a regular basis, I put Veronica's Room on my short list of shows I wanted to direct one day Thanks to David Sher and the Board of Directors of Elden Street Players, that opportunity finally arrived this year. This show will not be to everyone's liking, I know; but I hope you, as an audience member; can carry away some of the excitement I felt while playing in it many years ago.
