A tender, deeply personal play about the turmoil in the family of a
jazz musician as his career crumbles at the dawn of the age of
rock-and-roll.
ESP Proudly presents the Washington Area Community Theatre Premier
of Side Man by Warren Leight. The Wall Street Journal calls Side
Man
"a work in the great tradition of The Glass Menagerie and Long
Day's Journey Into Night ".
Side Man is a memory play with a difference - the comic and
tender story of Clifford, a young man looking back on his family life. The
play smoothly glides between present and past. It tells the story of a
time before the Beatles and Elvis when Jazz Men were as heroic as
ballplayers. Side Man is both a tribute to the men whose lives were
their music and a sober look at a family left in the wake of that passion.
